Peter Meinke has published fifteen books of poetry. His poems have received the Olivet and Paumanok Awards; The Emily Dickinson, Gustav Davidson, and Lucille Medwick prizes from the Poetry Society of America; and two NEA Fellowships in Poetry.

His collection of stories, The Piano Tuner, won the 1986 Flannery O'Connor Award. His stories have been included in The O'Henry Awards, Best American Short Stories, the 2003 Best Stories of the South, and have won three awards from PEN.

He taught at Eckerd College for 27 years, and has been writer-in-residence at various colleges and universities. He has lived in the Driftwood area of St. Petersburg with his wife, the artist Jeanne Clark, for over 40 years.
